(especially if you’re trying to grow)

LinkedIn just hit 1B users; if you want to reach them:

- Remember they don’t know you
- Remember they're here to be educated
- Remember they're here to be entertained

It's a social media platform after all.

If you want to reach them all, you need to:

- Use simple language for understanding
- Use cleverness for memorability
- Stop using fancy language
- Stop using fluffy words
- Keep it short & sweet
- Stick to the point

Bonus: Use psychology to hook them in too

Don’t write: “Tax laws are important for your business.”

Write: “Here's how to increase your income without earning more (by understanding these 3 tax laws)”

CLEAR difference.

Your post is a roadmap to your idea.

Get the reader from point A→B quickly.

They’ll reward you by consuming your content, daily.

The best LinkedIn growth hack I'm using this 2024: (that works without posting 10x a week) Raise the bar for every single post you write. Here's the three-step process I use daily: 1. Set the standard for your content. Choose 2-5 creators that align with you. Read and analyze their top-performing content. Use that as the standard of what "good" content is. 2.⁠ ⁠Practice writing every day. Pull out 10 pieces of content you like from others. Pull out 1 main idea from each of those posts. Study patterns, frameworks, and topics. Emulate it in your own content. 3.⁠ ⁠Review data and iterate Look at likes to see if it resonated. Look at reshares to see if it's interesting. Look at comments to see if it was valuable. Look at reach and see which topics are popular. Look at leads generated "per post" -> double down. 4. [Bonus] Use these frameworks: For hooks: Always focus on 1 topic. ↳ The best [x] lesson you'll receive: ↳ Unpopular opinion: ↳ Harsh Truth: For the body: a. Hook b. Re-hook c. Hint at the problem and solution e. Show exactly how to fix the problem f. Add a quick win or motivational quote g. End with a clear solution for the reader Too many people tell you the "solution" But they never tell you the actual answer. That's how you fix it, and how you can stand out. Following the success of my last year’s ’#LinkedIn things of 2022 to retire in 2023’ post, which gave me exactly 1472 new followers - according to people who are counting (my) followers - here are 11 LinkedIn things of ’23 to retire in #2024: 1)) Listing how - even though your house was on fire 3 times this year, your laptop was stolen & scammers cleaned your bank account so you had to work on your Nokia 3310 the whole year, while moonlighting as an Uber driver as the sole breadwinner in your chronically ill family of 13 kids, you managed to hit 7 figures in your solopreneur business, run a triathlon, while also holding a board seat in a Fortune 500 company, and adding 33 new properties to your rental apartment portfolio, but you’re gutted that your side hustle startup failed to invent a cure for brain cancer due to the shortage of VC funding - while I’m crying picking up crisps and my shredded self-esteem off the floor reading 10 variations of the same story every single day. Instead of finishing that one thing I just wanted to do before I learned that apparently, everyone on LinkedIn except me is a superhero. Why, oh why? Well we all know why. But it’s super-annoying. So just stop. 2)) Dramatically declaring you’re going on a “LinkedIn sabbatical/detox/cleanse”, only to share 3 posts per day 2 days later. 3)) Solopreneurs dunking on FT employees. FT employees dunking on solopreneurs. Employers dunking on everyone. Like the term of your contract is suddenly a status symbol, sweet mother of Jesus. 4)) This one’s for the ladies: The endless onslaught of unrelated selfies. I only learned to spell “moisturiser” in my mid-thirties so I really, really can’t beat you to this game. 5)) How you use ChatGPT to do every little thing nobody’s interested in & can do 3 x faster without it. 6)) Dramatically announcing how you’re going to be off for an entire eternity of 3.75 business days you’ve frivolously decided to afford yourself for the first time in 5 years. And how you’ll spend them on gobbling down lashings of pizza (accompanied by your size 0 selfie) with your numerous friends and family. But you will be checking your DMs if it’s *urgent*. And P.S. btw. you’re accepting clients for 2024 - and you have only 2 slots left for your 1:1 discovery call for $297 per hour, and they are filling fast, babe! 7)) Saying that SEO is dead. 8)) Being rude and calling it “positioning”. 9)) Telling everyone you’ve earned my annual salary pre-tax on selling your ebook in 2 weeks, and then asking for free advice/contribution to your next one in DMs, or worse still - a $297 loan because “everybody knows it’s been a hard year”. Would be quite funny if it wasn’t true. 10)) Posting unbacked “stats” and ignoring everyone who’s calling you out in the comments. 11)) The Beckham meme. I *am* being honest. It’s like two months old now and memes have the longevity of a sandwich. To a better tomorrow, fellow LinkedIn kids. 🥂

Your personal brand is worth more than gold. Follow these 20 rules to thrive on LinkedIn. 1. LinkedIn is a game, and everyone is playing. ↳ Choose your own goal. ↳ Example: followers, likes, sales. 2. People are playing different games. ↳ There are people with 1k followers making more money than you, and people with 100k earning less. 3. Consistency is important ↳ To be a serious player, you have to show up. Those “I’m back after a month o ff” posts, just tell me you’re not serious. 4. Your network is your networth. ↳ It’s cliche, but true. ↳ Other than my cofounder, everyone from my team is from LinkedIn. 6. Different rules for different people. ↳For some, carousels work, for some it’s text and photo. ↳ Don’t do what people tell you to do, test your account and analyse. 7. Engagement matters, but not as much as you think. ↳ People spend hours engaging on LinkedIn, and it does boost your profile. ↳ But there is a limit. My reach is more with 20 comments, than it is with 200. 8. Content is 99% of the game. ↳ People spend too much time worrying about the algorithm and shadowb*nning. ↳ If you spent this time improving your content, you would be better off. 9. People don’t really care about you. ↳ Everyone is trying to further their own cause. ↳ Imposter syndrome is in your head. Get your thoughts out there. 10. Get on calls. ↳ Comments are okay, DM’s are good but alls are GOLDEN. 11. Put some ‘personal’ in your personal brand. ↳ Videos people. They won’t get as much reach, but people get to know you. ↳ You are your brand, so show yourself. 12. AI pictures suck. ↳ You are not a perfect AI creation, use your real picture. 13. AI comments suck. ↳ C’mon guys, just stop it. 14. AI is not the answer. ↳ You’re trying to create a personal brand here. ↳ If you spent as much time learning copywriting as you did trying to hack the system with AI, you might actually create decent content. 15. Getting hate sucks. ↳ I thought hate messages wouldn't affect me, but they do, obviously. ↳ Try and be rational, if 99.9% of comments are positive, you’re fine. 16. LinkedIn is a b*tch. ↳ I have been banned twice, and I still don’t know why. Tread carefully. 17. LinkedIn is a tool. ↳ Over the last 6 months, I got addicted to LinkedIn, and then got over it. ↳ Remember, this is a professional tool, set your purpose and fit LinkedIn into it. 18. Delete the app. ↳ You don’t need to be wired into LinkedIn 24/7. Set yourself boundaries. 19. Set your damn goals. ↳ 90% of you are posting with no goal in mind. ↳ What are you trying to do? ↳ Work this out first, and suddenly your content plan is much easier. 20. Sort your profile out. ↳ I had an ugly profile for so long. This will damage your brand. ↳Try to be excellent in everything you do.
