The reality of working remotely is that you have to schedule fun...
And trying to co-ordinate 18 employees across different time zones is no walk in the park.
But I was determined to make it work.
Having recently organised an in-person meet-up with the team in Manchester, I decided to run a virtual social so more of us could join!
The rules:
❌️ No checking emails or Slack for the duration of the social.
We played a series of games including:
Would I lie to you 🤔
Whose desk is it anyway 🤷♀️
Guess who 😎
It was great to have a laugh with everyone and it went down well with my team too.
To any remote employees out there wanting to do more with their team, don't be afraid to ask to take something on despite it not being your role.
P.s its a great example of a transferable skill you can pick up from Guides being able to run activities with a group 😊

5 things I wish I knew sooner when starting out on LinkedIn:
🌻 Just because a post has sprung to mind it doesn't mean you need to post it there and then, make a note, refine it and schedule it.
🌻 Start noting down where and when events are happening and actively try and go rather than just telling the creator it sounds great.
🌻 Your profile matters just as much as your content if you're producing content that doesn't align with your profile it can send mixed messages to your audience.
🌻 People who find it cringe that you create content are not your real friends.
🌻 Start building out a CRM such as folk, you'd be surprised how fast your network can grow.

Social media changed everything.
As a teenager, the internet was where I started to create a community through a blog and a YouTube channel. It gave me the space to just be myself and, in turn, it helped me connect with others.
When we started A Moment of Magic Foundation I wanted to implement that to help us grow and reach more children. So, I started filming vlogs of the hospital visits, answering q+a’s, and sharing about me as the person behind what they saw on screen. It helped people connect with the mission and in turn, created an amazing community.
9 years and millions of views later, social media has been one of the most valuable messengers of our organization, carrying our mission to new heights and connecting us to people who may never have connected with us otherwise. For me, it’s been equal parts authentic and strategic, and my end goal was to always help create community who found value in the spaces and moments we were creating.
It’s been a long and interesting road. I’ve had moments go viral and videos completely flop. I’ve gotten the most beautiful, heartfelt messages I could ever hope to receive and some biting feedback in really public ways. As a person who cares so deeply about what I do and put out in the world, I take every post so seriously, understanding that each pixel is a piece of our story.
While I certainly am still learning in public, it was an absolute highlight of my career to present at the Points of Light conference in Chicago this weekend on the magic of storytelling and how nonprofits can leverage digital content to build community. The work we do is so important I believe it’s incredibly valuable to share these stories and while the causes are serious, we can do so without taking ourselves too seriously. We can try out trends. We can be a little cringey. We can create moments of connection, creating an invaluable moment of impact in just a single second.
A moment of magic, if you will. ✨
Thank you Points of Light for this incredible opportunity to share what I’ve learned and platform A Moment of Magic at one of the largest conferences for nonprofits in the world. It’s a privledge I am so grateful for. 🫶🏼

How do you create a custom LinkedIn banner that grabs the attention of recruiters and hiring managers in today’s competitive job market? For starters, there are several options for making your banner:
1️⃣ Hire a professional graphic designer
2️⃣ Choose one of LinkedIn’s custom images
3️⃣ Use a self-service graphic design tool
I break down each of these options, and explain what to include in your LinkedIn background, in my latest article: https://lnkd.in/eW_uZDgE
Now, here are a few tips to make the banner as compelling as possible:
✅ Focus the content on your areas of expertise, fabulousness, and consolidated career wins.
✅ Consider crafting a branding statement that concisely summarizes your work and impact. This can be as simple as, “I help [target audience] to [solution] so they can [result].”
✅ DON’T add your favorite quote to your banner, as your profile is about you, not someone you admire.
P.S. Thank you, Christa Fleming, for not only crafting my fabulous banner but also sharing your graphic design expertise in the article!
