The โMore Machineโ Trap (for marketers):
Marketing can feel like a โmore machineโ.
More marketing actions = more leads and pipeline.
But itโs not. There are three key limits that require you to act strategically and align around big themes, channels, and campaigns.
Limits:
-Your market can only absorb so many messages. Make them count.
-Your marketing team and budget can only produce so much. Make it compound for the biggest return.
-Your company can only work with clarity toward a single vision. The best marketing delivers focus.
How do your teams prioritize alignment with these limits in mind?

Whether you're the first or nth marketing hire, showing how marketing makes a real impact isn't easy.
Here's a simple framework to show the impact of ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด while reporting up to your founders or leadership -
Report outcomes (or impact) that the marketing activities drive and ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต the activities.
While it may seem evident, it is easy to get lost in the trap of reporting the activities you have going on.
๐งฎ Reporting framework -
1๏ธโฃ Result or outcome the marketing activity drove (e.g. website traffic)
2๏ธโฃ The โwhyโ behind this outcome (e.g. more ads or a webinar or a social media campaign)
3๏ธโฃ What next (Identify what led to the outcome, and how you can replicate it in the future)

๐ตBuy attention WHILE you build it - A golden rule of Startup Marketing.
Post Series-A, the hype from your fundraising has died down.
You are heads down building the product, getting early users in, nailing down your ICP and use cases.
But minus the fundraising hype, your brand awareness is limited.
This is where paid ads are golden.
You could split it three ways:
1๏ธโฃ Brand awareness ads (20%)
Make it memorable. Make it stop the scroll. Make them know who you are and what you do.
Serve to: Your main ICP + the larger market you are serving
2๏ธโฃ Account focused ads (60%)
Promote content/viewpoints specific to your top accounts.
Serve to: Your main ICP at target list of companies.
3๏ธโฃ Additional pipeline ads (20%)
Promote a benchmark, webinar, report or something educational to your 2nd/3rd ICPs and beyond.
Serve to: Your main ICP + ICP 2 & 3 + the larger market
This serves your two main priorities:
- Increase pipeline & land meetings with your main ICP
- Bring in prospects to test your additional use cases
P.S. Picture is from our inbound form :) 'Creepy ads' are where it's at.

Achieving product market fit one of startups' biggest dreams.
The reassurance that what's built aligns with what your target market desires ๐ฅน
A solid marketing plan helps you:
- Understanding through research: marketing digs deep into customer needs and pain points. This information directs product development toward market demand.
- Value communication: with the right product in place, marketing conveys its benefits. When fit is achieved, this message resonate with your audience. This is when they scream "This is for me!"
- Real time feedback: marketing campaigns serve as feedback channels. Their performance reveals how your product is received and what you have to refine.
By leveraging marketing, founders can ensure they're on track towards a fitting product-market match ๐ช
